The Pentagon chief, who met with Prime Minister Hun Manet for the first time since he took over the premiership from his father, expressed concerns over Beijing's involvement with the naval base it helped build, a U.S. official told ABC News. Cambodia, a close ally of China, allowed it to build the base on the Gulf of Thailand with Chinese funds.

Distractions, multitasking, miscommunication led to 2023 near-collision at JFK Airport: NTSB

Interruptions, distractions and multitasking led to a near-collision between an American Airlines flight and a Delta flight moving at 120 MPH down a runway at John F. Kennedy International Airport last year, according to a report released on Tuesday by the National Transportation Safety Board. Air traffic controllers cleared a Delta Air Lines 737 for takeoff on Runway 4L, however, 20 seconds after the Delta plane began its takeoff an American Airlines B-777 destined for London crossed the same runway without a clearance, according to the report. NTSB investigators said numerous factors contributed to the American Airlines captain's mistake, including "interruptions and multitasking that were happening on the flight deck during critical moments of ground navigation."

The ex-husband of "Real Housewives of New Jersey" star Dina Cantin, formerly Dina Manzo, was convicted by a jury Tuesday of planning an assault on his ex-wife's then-boyfriend in exchange for a free wedding reception, the Justice Department announced. Thomas Manzo, 59, was convicted of three separate felonies, including racketeering offenses, following a two-and-a-half-week trial in Newark. Manzo was found to have hired John Perna to assault the then-boyfriend-now-husband of his ex-wife, Dina Cantin, in 2015.

FDA advisers vote against recommending approval of MDMA as treatment for PTSD

A panel of independent advisers for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration voted against recommending approval of psychedelic treatment -- along with therapy -- to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) during a meeting on Tuesday. The treatment, developed by Lykos Therapeutics, is a pharmaceutical version of midomafetamine, better known as MDMA and sometimes referred to as ecstasy. The Psychopharmacologic Drugs Advisory Committee appeared to have serious doubts about the safety and efficacy of the treatment.

AT&T has resolved the "interoperability issue between carriers" customers were experiencing on Tuesday, the company said in a statement. Customers began reporting a "nationwide issue that is affecting" their ability to call non-AT&T users, AT&T said at the time. "The carriers are working as quickly as possible to diagnose and resolve the issue," AT&T said.

A Brooklyn man was charged Tuesday in connection with an illegal sports betting scheme involving Jontay Porter, the former Toronto Raptors player who received a lifetime ban from the NBA in April after he bet on his own team to lose. Porter pretended to be injured before a January game between the Raptors and the Los Angeles Clippers. According to federal prosecutors in Brooklyn, Bruce Pham placed bets on Porter's performance, knowing Porter planned to withdraw from the game.

Trump asks judge to lift limited gag order in his hush money case

Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday asked the judge who presided over his New York criminal hush money trial to lift the limited gag order that prevents him from speaking about witnesses, jurors and others associated with the case. Defense attorney Todd Blanche said in a letter to the court that the gag order is no longer warranted since the trial has ended. "Now that the trial is concluded, the concerns articulated by the government and the Court do not justify continued restrictions on the First Amendment rights of President Trump -- who remains the leading candidate in the 2024 presidential election -- and the American people," the letter said.

Man allegedly tried to break into co-worker's home with weapons, rope and handcuffs

A Michigan man who had a "romantic interest" in his former co-worker was arrested after he allegedly tried to break into her home with an "assortment of concerning items," according to police. Levi Trahern Smith, a 34-year-old lawyer, was allegedly spotted "lurking" outside the woman's home in the middle of the night on Saturday and attempted to get in through a side door, the Oakland County prosecutor's office said. Smith was found wearing latex gloves and carrying a backpack that contained a loaded handgun, a large knife, handcuffs, rope, masks, a hammer, a crowbar, duct tape and latex gloves, according to the Royal Oak Police Department.

House passes GOP bill to sanction ICC as it seeks arrest warrant for Netanyahu

The U.S. House on Tuesday passed a Republican-led bill that would impose sanctions on the International Criminal Court after its top prosecutor recommended war crimes charges against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Forty-two Democrats crossed party lines to help Republicans pass the bill despite opposition from the White House. The Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act, led by Texas Republican Rep. Chip Roy, would require mandatory sanctions and visa restrictions on any foreign person working or providing funds for the ICC in prosecutions against the U.S., Israel or any other U.S. ally that is not party to the ICC.

Suspects sought in shooting of 2 girls, ages 9 and 11, caught in the crossfire on a New York City playground

A search continued on Tuesday for a pair of gunmen who opened fire on a man in a New York City playground, hitting two children in the line of fire, police said. The shooting in the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn erupted Monday night as the girls were playing on a field at the Hilltop Playground, according to New York City Police Department investigators. The injured girls were identified by relatives as 9-year-old Ruanna Brown and her 11-year-old cousin, Empress Alexander Davis.

Shohei Ohtani's ex-interpreter pleads guilty in gambling case

Ippei Mizuhara, the former interpreter for MLB star Shohei Ohtani, pleaded guilty Tuesday to federal charges related to stealing nearly $17 million from the Dodgers player in order to cover gambling debts, according to the Department of Justice. Mizuhara, 39, agreed to plead guilty last month to one count of bank fraud, which carries a maximum of 30 years in prison, and one count of subscribing to a false tax return, which carries up to three years in prison. The guilty plea was formally entered at a change of plea hearing Tuesday morning, after Mizuhara previously pleaded not guilty to the charges at his arraignment last month as a procedural matter.

Attorney General Merrick Garland pushed back forcefully on "false" and "extremely dangerous" narratives he said are being spread about the Department of Justice in an appearance before the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, saying he and the department "will not be intimidated." The hearing came as House GOP lawmakers threaten to hold Garland in contempt for withholding records they've subpoenaed from Special Counsel Robert Hur's investigation into President Joe Biden's handling of classified documents following his vice presidency, including audio recordings of Hur's interview. "Certain members of this Committee and the Oversight Committee are seeking contempt as a means of obtaining -- for no legitimate purpose -- sensitive law enforcement information that could harm the integrity of future investigations," Garland said in his opening statements.

President Joe Biden on Tuesday announced new executive actions aimed at addressing surges of migrants crossing the U.S. southern border unlawfully by placing new thresholds on those allowed to seek asylum. Biden spoke from the White House about the new measure, which his administration said will accomplish immigration reform that lawmakers have been unable to deliver. "I've come here today to do what the Republicans in Congress refuse to do: take the necessary steps to secure our border," Biden said.
